BIRN’s First-Ever Network Meeting
The first BIRN network meeting was held in Palic in Serbia, on August 24-25, 2006.

It was organised in the first year of BIRN’s existence and marked the beginning of building the network, defining the scopes of its members’ activities and their relations within the regional structure.
Journalistic training was organised covering several topics that were current at the time. Trainers came from the Centre for Investigative Journalism in Britain, the Romanian Center for Investigative Journalism, and from the BIRN editorial team.
Topics included the differences between analysis and an investigative report; CAR (Computer Assisted Reporting); business journalism; regional justice reporting; court reporting and the role of the journalist in the courtroom.
Plans for the upcoming period, new projects and partnerships and the internal organisation of the network were also discussed at the meeting.
