Following a report in an episode of BIRN Bosnia and Herzegovina’s ‘TV Justice’ programme, the Bosnian state prosecution opened an investigation into the rape of a 15-year-old during the war.

Weakening EU and US influence in the Balkans and increased Russian influence, as well as growing political and economic pressures on journalists, have created a harsher environment for Balkan media, BIRN’s biennial meeting heard.

Mirna Buljugic, the director of the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIRN BiH), participated in the ODIHR Trial Monitoring annual meeting in Skopje, Macedonia, at the end of April 2017.

Members of the Initiative for Monitoring the European Integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina [the Initiative], including BIRN BiH, held a two-day strategic planning session focusing on monitoring Bosnia’s European integration process in the upcoming period. The session took place on March 21^st and 22^nd in the capital, Sarajevo.

After BIRN BiH presented three stories relating to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s wartime past at the‘True Stories Market’ at the Sarajevo Film Festival in 2016, Al Jazeera decided to produce a documentary based on one of them.

Representatives of the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network in Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in a public debate on a draft revision of the Law on Free Access to Information, held in Sarajevo on February 23. 

In its 11th year, the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIRN BiH) began reporting on corruption, organised crime and terrorism, while maintaining a leading role in monitoring war crimes and the judiciary.

Journalists and students who work with Danish daily newspaper Politiken visited BIRN BiH in Sarajevo.
