Based in Belgrade, Maja joined BIRN as a reporter covering Serbia in June 2016.

She worked as journalist-researcher on the BIRN’s 2017 documentary film ‘Your House Was My Home’, which tells the the story of how the 1990s war forced villagers in Serbia and Croatia to exchange homes with each other in an attempt to save their own lives. She has also cooperated as investigative journalist on BIRN project “Paper Trail for Better Governance.”

Prior to joining BIRN, she worked for regional public broadcaster RTV, Beta news agency, Blic newspaper, e-Novine and local weekly List Zrenjanin.

She was awarded the best young investigative journalist in Vojvodina by the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina in 2015 and has also received the EU Award for Investigative Journalism for Serbia in 2017.

She has an MA in Communication/Media Studies from the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. She speaks Serbian and English.
