Film Festival Opens in Prizren, Kosovo

07 08 2007  Pristina _ The sixth international documentary and short film festival in Kosovo, Dokufest, opened on Monday night in Prizren.

Aliriza Arenliu, the festival director, told Balkan Insight they had selected 60 films from nearly 800 submissions, opening with the documentary "We are together" an IDFA and Tribeca production.

Among the chosen films were James Blunt's "Return to Kosovo; "In the land of the deaf"; "The truth about the tooth" and "Losers and Winners".

Organisers said jury members would include Sean Farnel, director of programming for Toronto's Hot Docs, North America's biggest documentary festival; Aliona van der Horst, a documentary filmmaker from Holland and last year's winner of Dokufest, Dominik Kamalzadeh, from Austria, Shkelzen Maliqi, a philosopher and publicist from Kosova and Marko Skop, from Slovakia.

"This year, the audience has more choices. We have also more screening places," Arenliu said.

For the first time, the festival included a special competition for children, called DokuKids. Arenliu said the idea was to let five teenagers judge various films with a view to bringing children closer to the world of documentary film-making.
