Life in Kosovo: Forbidden Sex
12 02 2009 This week, Life in Kosovo discussed sex taboos in Kosovo under the theme “What you dared to do but didn’t dare to ask”.
A documentary film was shown about the state of reproductive health in Kosovo and the prevalence of sex taboos.
The documentary focused on the reluctance of many parents to discuss anything about sex with their children.
Teenagers revealed that they did not learn about sexual intercourse either in school or in the home.
While talking about sexual intercourse with teenagers is considered difficult all over the world, the film made it clear that discussion of the issue was even more difficult when the society had a patriarchal mentality.
“Kosovo’s Son in Law” was shown at the end of the show, followed by a municipal debate, entitled “Life in Gjakova”.
Life in Kosovo is a co-production between Kosovo Public Television, RTK and the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, BIRN. It is broadcast every Thursday, starting at 20:20.
