Advanced training for journalists in Novi Pazar
27 11 2007 BIRN’s team in Serbia organized a two–days
advanced training course for five journalists from the Sandzak region, as part
of its Minority Media Training and Reporting Project.
Misa Brkic, senior news reporter from Belgrade, held two group sessions on economic
reporting, tackling important issues of the region, such as investments,
budgetary control, corruption and cash flow. The aim was to help
journalists recognize potential stories and understand ongoing developments.
Gordana Igric, BIRN Director and media trainer, helped
journalists put local stories in a wider context, giving advice on how to formulate
and structure their articles.
During the training course participant were once again
introduced to international standards in reporting, especially in terms of
objectivity and balance.
Eight articles will be produced as a result of the
training session. Out of that number five will be published as a special
edition of Balkan Insight to show how the severe political division in the Sandzak
influence all aspects of life and development.
The articles will cover the relationship between the local
and national authorities, tensions between different political parties in the context
of religious division among the Bosniaks in the Sandzak, the restructuring of
local industries, problems with smuggling of goods, the state of the local
media, and the possibilities for the development of this region in the context
of the Central European Free Trade Agreement.
