13 09 2005 The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, BIRN Serbia is organising a
three-day workshop in Novi Sad the second
workshop as part of a practical three-month advanced journalism course for
journalists in Vojvodina.
The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, BIRN Serbia is organising a
three-day workshop in Novi Sad from September 9 to September 11, the second
workshop as part of a practical three-month advanced journalism course for
journalists in Vojvodina.
Ten young professionals from different Vojvodina media outlets who participated
in the first sessions in June have individual editorial training with
BIRN editor Gordana Igric and Dragana Solomon-Nikolic to discuss the previous
articles they have published in Balkan Crisis Report –a joint project
between the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) and BIRN.
The package of BIRN articles on Vojvodina were widely republished in
local and foreign media and sparked debate among politicians, journalists
and NGOs in the province.
This latest workshop gives participants the chance to discuss the editorial
process involved in their first articles and to work with editors on a
second series of reports, which will be published as a special package
in October. Articles will cover current political, economic and social
issues in Vojvodina.
After finishing the formal three month course, journalists will continue
to report regularly for BIRN as part of a wider network involving journalists
from Serbia and the Balkan region.
BIRN Serbia and Montenegro is a recently established local media development
organisation that the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) helped
create as a network of NGOs in seven countries
throughout the Balkans. Its primary aim is to strengthen investigative
journalism in the region.
The BIRN Serbia training course will focus on the media outside Belgrade,
organising training throughout the country, with a view to expanding a
network of potential contributors. Training sessions will give participants
a new platform from which to present their views to the mainstream media
in Belgrade through the republication of their articles.
