Journalists’ Workshop in Tirana
24 09 2007 Seven journalists from leading Albanian
publications attended a workshop in Tirana on September 20, as part
of BIRN’s ongoing reporting project
The group comprised reporters whose aim
is to become regular BIRN contributors. Participants in the workshop
included journalists from the dailies Koha Jone, Korrieri, Shqip and
the magazine Mapo.
Individual meetings were also held with
reporters interested in writing for Balkan Insight, BIRN’s online
publication.
Special attention was devoted to
the issues of sources and interviews - finding the right people,
checking their reliability, building a network, using anonymous
sources and protecting them, dealing with individuals in positions of
power and confronting interviewees with relevant information and
arguments.
During the workshop, BIRN’s Albania
Project Manager & Editor, Besar Likmeta, worked with journalists
on the preparation of articles dealing with specific subjects, such
as corruption in the health service and in the educational system.
Several investigative articles were commissioned and outlined.
The workshop was organized with the
help of the Washington-based National Endowment for Democracy, a
private, not-for-profit foundation.
