workshop on International Reporting Standards from 7 to 9 of April.
Six Kumanovo journalists attended a three-day BIRN Macedonia training
workshop on International Reporting Standards from 7 to 9 of April. The
journalists included Kumanovo correspondents for Macedonian and
Albanian-language national media outlets, as well as reporters from
local TV stations.
Well-known journalist and trainer German Filkov and BIRN
Macedonia Country Director Ana Petruseva held lectures and exercises on
news writing, interviewing, sourcing, BIRN style and structure,
diversity reporting and ethics. The journalists and trainers also
discussed and analyzed differences in local and international
reporting, the approach of the national Macedonian media to local
events in Kumanovo and how to overcome obstacles the correspondents
face in their daily reporting.
The workshop concluded
with reporters choosing topics to prepare articles that will appear on
BIRN Macedonia`s web page in Macedonian and Albanian. Successful
trainees will have an opportunity to become permanent members of BIRN's
investigative team.
