Sandzak Advanced Course
17 10 2006 Dragana Nikolic Solomon, BIRN Serbia Director, Tanja Matic, BIRN correspondent, Zoran Stanojevic, BBC journalist, and Dragoljub Zarkovic, editor-in-chief of Vreme magazine were trainers at an advanced journalism course in Sandzak between October 13 and 15. The course, part of on going Minority Reporting and Information project, was funded by British Embassy in Belgrade.

Zoran Maksimovic and Sladjana Novosel from Regionalna TV, Amela Bajrovic and Alma Rizvanovic from Radio sto plus, and Prvoslav Karanovic and Dzengis Buljukbas, freelance journalists, took part in the training session.
The trainers discussed the basics of international journalism and journalistic ethics; and looked at news analysis and feature writing, highlighting common mistakes.
Zarkovic gave lecture on reporting under political pressure, sharing his experience of over thirty years of reporting in Serbia.
On the last day, articles for a special edition of Balkan Insight on Sandzak were commissioned, covering issues often ignored in the mainstream media, such as the economy, local politics and human rights. The package is expected to be published in November.
According to one of the trainees, Zoran Maksimovic, the BIRN training was very useful. "I was happy with the workshop and I enjoyed learinng a few new tricks of the trade. I hope to be able to write more articles for BIRN," said Maksimovic.
