With its objective, timely and unbiased reports, BIRN’s Justice Report provides a support network for media, the general public and displaced citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina throughout the world.
Through its objective, timely and unbiased reporting, BIRN – Justice Report offers a network of support to the media and the general public in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as BiH citizens living abroad.
In addition to covering trials conducted before the War Crimes Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we produce analyses and follow and report on changes in the judicial system and alternative mechanisms for determining the truth about past events in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Our reports are published in the languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina and in English. They are available, free of charge, to all interested parties.
Since March 2006 BIRN Justice Report has published daily news on its web page: www.bim.ba. Each Friday we issue a magazine containing all the articles published in the past week. The magazine is sent by e-mail to around 5,000 registered subscribers.
If you would like to receive Justice Report via e-mail please subscribe at www.bim.ba or send an e-mail to urednik@birn.eu.com.
In August 2008 we expanded our production, which now also includes daily audio reports. One year later we established a weekly Radio Justice Magazine.
Radio Justice is broadcast in local language only. It can be viewed on our web page. It is also available as a weekly newsletter.
We estimate that Radio Justice magazine reaches about one million listeners.
In December 2009 BIRN Justice Report began broadcasting a monthly TV magazine.
All our products are available on our web page and through the network of media stations that carry them.
Justice Report is supported by a large number of victims' associations in Bosnima and Herzegovina.
“We, sexually abused women and men, support you and nobody else. Due to our extensive involvement in the Association, we do not have time to follow all the trials, so we thank you for the reports and express our full support,” The Association of Women, Victims of War.
Many media stations in Bosnia and Herzegovina rely on Justice Report as a source of daily information on war-crimes trials.
“It is my pleasure to say that the information we receive from you by e-mail is welcome. We use it almost on a daily basis, as an indication of events we would like to cover in more detail, or as a source of information that we announce directly on our programmes or that we include in our regular reports on the Court’s work.” – Federation Radio
This also applies to international academic and research institutions.
“As a university professor, I teach transitional justice. I want to explain to my students what is happening in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Your agency is an excellent source of information on justice and reconciliation.” Center for Justice and Peacebuilding, Eastern Mennonite University Harrisonburg, Virginia USA.
A short time after its establishment, Justice Report was awarded a prestigious international journalistic prize.
Justice Report Editor, Nidzara Ahmetasevic, won Italy’s “Claudio Accardi” prize for journalism, for “The Last Taboo”, a story written for Justice Report about rape and sexual abuse of men in detention camps in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war.
