01 01 2010 BIRN Serbia’s mission is to advance the country's political, social and economic transition through the provision of information, the training of journalists and the creation of a local journalists network.
BIRN Serbia is mainly focused on Serbian border regions, aiming to build a network of skilled reporters in order to increase the capacity of local media through better and wider reporting.
BIRN Serbia aims to open space for local journalists to write about the problems with which they find themselves battling and providing them with information platform through BIRN’s highly praised regional on line publication Balkan Insight.
BIRN Serbia is in a unique position of having a network of over 30 journalists closely working with a team of editors.

BIRN Serbia intends to operate at the forefront of efforts to professionalize media and civil society, empowering responsible local voices, supporting professional investigative reporting, and contributing to cross-community understanding in this post-conflict society.
Our key activities are:
a) establishing and maintaining sustainable networks of professional journalists throughout Serbia;
b) developing skills and professionalism in Serbia’s regions through training/mentoring;
c) providing reliable reporting and analysis on key issues; and
d) building dialogue and debate on issues covered.
At the beginning of 2010 BIRN network published Digging Deeper - A Guide for Investigative Journalists in the Balkans, written in cooperation with Sheila Coronel, Director of the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism and professor of professional practice at Columbia University, New York.
